Back Beach Boyz

Teignmouth’s Back Beach Boyz shanty crew were formed 1st February 2013 and are named after our famous “Back Beach” where everyone meets to watch the sunsets and socialise. The Hawaiian shirts are inspired by the 60’s group the Beach Boys. Or music is a mixture of Sea Shanties, forebitter / foc’sle songs and Maritime Folk songs, many of the latter written by members of the group.

We believe in having fun whilst we are singing and we perform at festivals all over the country, plus private events and also at suitable charity events for free.

Our 1st album, “Good Libations”, released in 2019, raised £1000 for Macmillan. Our second album, “Captain Baarman’s Dog”, features the track “The Monk Of Lidwell Chapel”, which is also our first ever professional promotional video! Out third album, “Captain Jack Spratt” will be available before the end of 2023 and we will back in the recording studio with a view to releasing more material in 2024.

Charities we support

We usually perform at suitable charity events for free.
For paid bookings we often ask for the option to pass buckets around for additional donations from the audience.
